This site needs to be more active. We need to get more members. We currently have eight but there are really only really three of us who are active. We need to figure out how to promote this place more. Maybe more active recruitment on the Facebook page and group? Also, I know this group/club/organization is supposed to mimic The 501st as far as membership goes, but could that limit initial membership? For example, hypothetically we may find nine people who would want to join but aren't screen accurate yet in their costumes. If we don't allow them we may be limiting word of mouth of our group. I don't know. Let me know what you guys think. I'm going to try and get my friends Dave and Stephanie to join here. They were Mal and River at Detroit Fanfare.

sorry, I havnt been here lately... like you said, been quite here.
I agree with you. at first I thought we should try to keep it screen accurate as possible, but is that really necessary? I dont think so.. the average fan isnt going to know the details. I say we open it up to anyone who has a costume that looks like they would live in "the 'Verse"... for example.. you cant be wearing tennis shoes for a mal or something obvious like that.
you are welcome to push this on FB. I have been. not lately. I got to get back on this, but I am really waiting for the CON seasons to start. then start pushing again. We got a big one coming up in Chicago april 13-15.. Hopefully I can do to this, push a little there.. hand out cards..

I just joined the Browncoats of NYC Facebook group. I think I'll talk up our group there. I was thinking about checking out the California Browncoats and Chicagoland Browncoats too to see if they had large Facebook presences and to see about joining their groups and spreading word of The 'Verse.

I'm going to try and get my friends Dave and Stephanie to join here. They were Mal and River at Detroit Fanfare. Dave and Stephanie are exactly what I am talking about. both costumes were awesome! and I think would be perfect for this club. I knew exactly who they were trying to be and so did everyone else. I would totally approve each of their costumes.. whether its screen accurate or not..(I am no Mal of River expert in anyway ) I use the 501st as a base for this club, because honestly thats all I know.. I thought if we start at "screen accurate" first we would avoid problems that the Rebel legion are having now. they started out by accepting anyone with a "good guy" star wars costume. now they are kicking some people out cause they "up" their standards, but for this club, I dont think that is necessary. its what I wanted to do at the start, but coming from a 501st and RL background... I was afraid to not be taken seriously .. I got to remember, this is our club. not 501st or RL. We can do what we want they have to look like they are from the 'Verse. like I said before, no tennis shoes and stuff like that. I'll start updating some of this stuff this week.

I think that's a great idea and hopefully a way to expand membership of this club.

Looks like some of our work has paid off. Our membership seems to be growing quite a bit. Good stuff.

absolutely! seems like we get new likes on the FB page every day now. membership here has more than doubled. this is very cool. now we got to start to build up our "Official Members" in the Photo database. public.fotki.com/The-Verse/this is going to be the tough one and really the most important one, But I figured as soon as the CONs start hitting towns, people will be getting into costume and able to take pictures. this is moving along nicely. I got some business cards from "Vistaprint" that I will be using at some CONs here in Chicago. it's the older version that I ordered before Browncoatkal improved it, but it will do the job until I order some of the new ones. if anyone wants some, I can send you some. I don't have a lot. only 250 right now, but I can send you a few. IF anyone wants, you can print some yourself. theverse.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=54 SO if anyone is going to ANY CON this year. Even if you are not dressed in a Firefly costume. Please mention us to anyone you see in a Firefly costume.

welcome to the Forums melissamilam! you don't have to own a costume to contribute here. but yes the whole idea is for Firefly Costumers to have a place to talk about their costumes. improve their costumes. talk about the real costumes. etc... the FB page is just a way to find more people that are interested in firefly costumes. I post a lot on the FB page, because right now, thats where most of the people are at. But here is where I try to get into more details about the costumes..make info easier to find..the FB page is more of a teaser to get people to come here.. sorry 3d doesn't count, but that looks awesome!! great job. feel free to add any pictures, suggestions, ideas.. whatever. everyone is welcome, costume or not. Hopefully someday you will have one of your own, but if you never do, you are still welcome to contribute in anyway you like. Welcome Crix

Hello! My name is Kayla and I was Kaylee at c2e2 in Chicago. My costume is far from screen accurate, but I threw it together the night before the con. I have plans to make it more authentic. Thanks for inviting me here while I was at the con!
