Article III: Code of Conduct
While in costume, our members are expected to maintain and command an acceptable level of professionalism and respect.
1. We have a policy of strict adherence to behavioral canon. If something took place on screen it is permissible when appropriate. a) For example, consumption of alcoholic beverages and harmless flirting were both shown in Firefly/Serenity. However belligerent intoxication and harassment were not. b) Appropriate representation of this organization is key. Our members represent The 'Verse as a whole. What they do reflects on all of us.

Article IV: Disciplinary Action
The 'Verse is a volunteer based organization created for the joy and celebration of the Firefly TV series and Serenity Movie. This charter has been created in order to ensure a safe, just, and enjoyable experience for its members and to preserve the best interests of the Firefly franchise, its fandom, and the general public, against complications internal or external. To this end, a system of disciplinary action has been created.

I have a question about the Charter. Will there be a section made in the Charter for Original Characters set in the Verse? I very respectfully ask because we've got 100 members--or more--and yet if we only recreate what was seen on the show and the BDM, well ... we'll be limited to the wardrobes of only 9 main characters and maybe 10-12 others. That's .... not a lot of people, and the Verse is HUGE. I realize that if original characters and their original costumes are allowed, it would mean more time must be taken in judging them for quality and suitability. If we are to be a costume club, though, would it not stand to reason to encourage ingenuity, design, and expansion of costumes in the Verse, instead of recreating two dozen or so? I would like to stress that I am new to this board and this is only my second-ever post. I have no intentions of stepping on anyone's toes or stirring up ill will. I am simply curious as to how much freedom we have as participants to design and execute Verse costumes. If I have posted this topic in error, please let me know. If this topic should be pursued in a different thread on this forum, please let me know. I am a closet costume junkie and am dying to meet people with like interests. So far, y'all are the only outfit that seems fitting. (puns intended) Thank you!

Welcome to "The Verse". I am not on the command staff so what I say is not the rule but from everything I have heard and read original costumes are highly encouraged. We can only have so many Jayne,Kaylee and Captain's. The 10 foot rule applies here also that it needs to be recognized as a persona from the verse. Hopefully some one will chime in and clarify the requirements. To me a "new" charicter is great because it is your vision of the world. It is usually less expensive to make an off world charicture also. To look like a BIG DAMN HERO cost a lot to buy all the proper peices. You could have Hundreds of dollars tied up in one persona. The recognizable props ( weapons, shirts...) is what seems to cost the most It is also nice to not be compared to the Serenity crew that others are dressed as. I am working on an Apothocary that I hope to complete soon. Good luck and definatly post photos please.

Oh geez, everyone. I'm so sorry I've left off replying til now--I didn't get an email notification that anyone answered my post. Now it's MONTHS later. So sorry. (Does the board even tell you via email of responses?) leafonthewind: 10 foot rule? Does this mean that you can tell what a person is at 10 feet? Or ... ? I really AM very GREEN at this sort of thing. @crix: Yes! I hope to have fun. At the moment, my character/persona is still just in writing. I hope to get a costume done but I'm SOOOOOOO picky. LOL! I want to get it just right. And lose 50 pounds. Grow 10 inches. Maybe change my eye color. Get a tan .... (J/K!)

((Wow. Just another indication of how new I am to this board: I had NO IDEA that the "@" before a member's name will turn it to an active link to their profile page. Although I notice that Crix's didn't work. I wonder why? It's captialized in my post ... Huh.))
