Jayne's Bracer
Wrist Bracer.
Im not going to go into great detail on this project cause I dont want to bore you to death.
If you would like better instructions please feel free to PM me.
I did a little research before begining my Jayne Bracer and found a post on the RPF that gave very good pictures and instructions of a bracer.
www.therpf.com/f9/making-jayne-cobb-wrist-strap-firefly-serenity-113182/
I also used the pictures of the bracer from QMX to get a better view of the original prop.
I made mine from leather and hardware I found at Tandy Leather.
www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/home.aspx
I spent about $30.00 on a few tools ( punch set, skiver, rivet setter.) to help with the work.
The leather was around $12.00
Bag of 50 pop rivets around $4:00
The "Roller Buckle" is 5/8 (.625) wide
$5.00 each
The loop is called a "Concho slide".
$3.00 for a bag of 10
I ground the pointy stud off the concho slide to make it the hold down loop.
This was the closest match to the original prop I could find.
I cut the pattern from vinyl then copied it onto the leather.
Overall start length was around 22 inches
The straps are 5/8 wide. ( .625 )
The hardest part was locating and cutting the 4 slots that the straps fit through.
I didn't have a slot cutter so I used a punch for the ends then cut the slot with a exacto knife.
It doesnt look pretty but works well.
When the cutting and shaping was done I attached the buckles then tried it on to locate where the buckle holes should go.
After punching the holes I cut the strap length down to fit into the second set of slots.
I had to thin out ( skive ) the straps to make it bend for the buckles and the ends to fit the slots.
Tool: $12.00
Considering this was my first leather project , overall Im pretty happy with the outcome.
I have a few of the tools now and plan on useing them again soon.
