The revolver that Jayne carries around with him in Firefly is a modified Confederate Civil War LeMat Revolver (Cavalry version). Jayne's name for the gun (he names all of his weapons), is Boo. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeMat_Revolver

Here is a picture of an authentic Civil War era LeMat, and the screen used Boo. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

After creating this thread and posting in it. I realized there was another thread dedicated to Jayne's hand guns that I myself have even posted in before. But because 'Boo' is the hand gun most often associated with Jayne, I think he/she? deserved his/her own thread so I decided decided to keep this one.

I should probably know this, but where did the name "Boo" come from?

A minor correction. 'Boo' is a modern day, Pietta reproduction of a Civil War era Cavalry Le Mat pistol. It HAD been a live firing 'cap and ball' Black powder revolver, but was converted to .38 cartridge for the show. I own Boo, as well as MANY other screen used items and weapons. The nice man who wrote the three Firefly Visual Companion books sold most of them to me. He's spent time over my house, and I count him a personal friend. BOO: Also, it was Adam, not Jayne who named his toys. Adam's show and tell interview. www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ojikQ79UMFun fact: Adam named one of his final battle rifles in Serenity after a deceased fan he knew to honor his memory. It was 'Lux', after Lux Lucre. Lux Lucre (Kerry Pearson) died eight years ago today.

What I meant was that Boo was based off of the Civil War LeMat, not an actual modified one. bronsonbb, thanks for sharing your pics and story of how you came to own Boo. That is an awesome piece. Hopefully we'll get to meet at a con someday and you'll let me see it in person. Do you own any other original Jayne props?

I also own entire cleaning kit Jayne is seen using in the beginning of Arial, the harness and goggles Jayne wears in 'The Train Job', one of the 'Binkys' and a grenade he wore in the movie. I think that might be it for Jayne stuff.

That is totally awesome. Thanks for the info. And thanks for posting the pics of Boo. I have a Denix replica LeMat that I plan on converting into a Boo. Someone on the replica prop forum machined me aluminum pieces for the add ons and am hoping to get working on it soon. I have pictures of other replicas, but the only good pics of the Hero Boo I have are in the second Visual Companion. The pics you posted are great and should really help me and my uncle (who's assisting me on the project) make it as authentic as possible.

That'll be Sidewinder that made your greeblies for you. I met him at DragonCon a couple years back. He's pretty awesome. Made my Denix replica for me too.

You are correct, it was sidewinder. When searching therpf.com for anything related to Jayne Cobb, I came upon pics he had of the pieces he had made. I sent him an email asking if he'd be willing to make me a set and he did. From the correspondence we had, he seemed like a great guy. And he did very nice work. And anytime I've had questions about putting together the gun, he's always responded quickly with the answers. Now I just need to get working on the thing.

Oh, and FYI for anyone reading this, stay away from therpf.com for the time being. The entire site was hacked and the domain name was stolen and a fake site was put in its place. The real site has temporarily moved while they sort things out. The current site is www.thereplicapropforum.com
