This is the River outfit I mentioned on Facebook. I have a very similar pink skirt (not two layers, but still very close), I would just need to acquire a good sweater. I am thinking Mohair.

good question.. I'll see what I can find. to me it looks like one whole dress. colors look the same and when she is tied to the poll, it looks like a dress not a skirt.. but cant tell for sure. plus I am not expert on dresses and skirts  I have no idea what I am talking about. but since you cant tell if it's a single piece or 2 pieces, I say either would fine. the sweater covers anything that would show you, so you would never see it anyway.. |

I know. It's just with a costume like River's details and accuracy area big detail because there's not much else to tell it apart from every day clothing. I for example could wear a blonde wig and Chobit ears without doing a specific dress from the anime and people would still know I was "Chii" from Chobits.
I've been trolling ebay and the skirt, let me tell you is a pain in the butt to locate.

first - Hi. Just found the site a few days ago and am de-lurking now.
I'm about to start this particular costume for a friend and am all excited about it. Will post pix as things get done, in case it helps anypony.
I'll be making the skirt but it looks REALLY simple - mine will be basically 2 thin layers of poly-cotton, one pink and the top layer being either pale pink or white.
question: does it look like the top layer of the skirt is white, but showing some of the pink layer underneath? or does it look pale pink to you?

It's a full dress - at one point in the episode, when River collects berries, Simon says that she'll stain her "dress."
