I'm sewing mine this week too. But unlike the RPF one, I plan to use no elastic. I'm gonna make mine tighten/loosen with the buckle pulls. That way the buckles will be completely functional.

I thought about that, but I took the easy way out.. I've been thinking about makeing a new set so they are functional like you are doing. some day

The way I made mine is so that they are velcroed on, but with the buckles crossing over the velcroed seam so that it looks like the buckles are holding the gaiters together. Instead of sewing the nylon straps together, my mom, who helped me with the project, just duck taped them together. The tape held very well. Also the buckle straps were super glued on and not sewn. That worked well and they stayed put the whole time. The only drawbacks to the gaiters were: 1. The duck tape didn't let the material breathe, so that when I removed them after a day at the con, their backs were all covered in sweat and my pant cuffs were soaked. 2. They were long enough to wrap around my calves, bot not around my boot tops. If I make another pair, I will make them longer so that they will wrap around the boot tops as well as my legs.

How long are yours? I got 2" nylon webbing and I was gonna sew three strips of it, making (if my publik edjakashun paid off) 6" gaiters.

I'll check tomorrow and let you know.
